Intro This page introduces the new "Next Unseen" feature on the website forums, which lets users quickly jump to the latest unread comments across all discussion threads. If you like staying caught up with forum activity, this tool will highlight posts you haven't seen yet and guide you directly to those conversations. The feature tracks unread posts for your account and offers easy navigation between unseen threads, helping you keep up with new discussions and tips from other members.
Transcript Hey folks, this is Richard Rost. I just wanted to let you guys in on a new feature that I just added to the website. Well, it's not really new. I've had it for a while and then I let the moderators have it for a while to try to iron out any bugs before I release it to everybody.

If you're the kind of person that enjoys reading the forums and participating and you want to just be able to read everything, whatever's new, then this feature will be for you.

Now, down here over in the forums list, you'll see all the recent comments that were made on whatever pages. Stuff you haven't seen will be in red. If you want to go to the next unread comment, like the newest unread comment that you haven't seen yet, just click on this unseen link. That'll take you to whatever forum, whatever post it was. You can see the last one was by me about two hours ago. If you want to scroll up, you'll see where you're at - Access forum - this one here.

If you're not interested in this one, there's a next unseen link right there or you'll find it up at the top here. Clicking on that will take you to the next post that you haven't seen. Again, it's me from two hours ago. It's a Saturday and not a lot of people are on the site. There are 25 people online right now.

This is just a quick feature. I like to use it to keep abreast of who's posting what online. I like to see what everyone is saying. Just click on this and it'll take you to the next thread, whatever is the next newest thing. Again, another post by me. This is my other account. I normally wouldn't be seeing this. I use my Richard Rost account - that's my admin account. Right now I'm logged on as my Rick user account, so I'm seeing all the stuff that this account hasn't seen yet.

Click on this guy, and there you go. There's a post by Kevin from two hours ago. It's just a little thing, but if you're like me and want to keep abreast of everything that everyone is saying, there's a lot of good stuff in here. My moderators and the Access veterans like Raymond are awesome and help people out.

There are lots of cool tips and tricks to be gleaned from the forums. I like to spend as much time in here as I can. There you go. That's the next unseen feature. It's right there. Just click that guy.

It's based on the date of the newest reply on every thread. That's why it didn't go here first, because this is a top-level comment that was posted before that last reply you saw. Eventually, it'll get you back to here, but it's the newest post in every thread.

Enjoy.

Summary Today's TechHelp tutorial from Access Learning Zone is all about a useful feature I've recently made available to everyone on the website. This feature, which allows users to keep track of all the new forum activity, had previously been tested by the moderators so we could work out any issues before a wider release.

If you are someone who likes to browse the forums and participate in discussions, this feature is designed for you. It makes it easy to find and read any new or unread posts since your last visit. In the forum list, you'll notice recent comments from various pages, and anything you haven't read yet will be highlighted in red.

To jump to the newest comment that you have not yet seen, there is an "unseen" link provided. When you select it, you are taken directly to that particular post or comment regardless of which forum or thread it is in. In my demonstration, I saw that the latest post was mine from a couple of hours ago. You can keep track of your location in the forums by checking the header or breadcrumb trail that shows which forum and topic you're currently viewing.

If you come across a thread that does not interest you, you can use the "next unseen" link, which appears both within the thread and at the top of the page, to move on to the next unread post. In cases where there are not many users online, you may notice several posts from the same person, but as activity picks up, you'll see more variety.

I use this feature myself to monitor all new posts and to see what everyone is discussing. It is an extremely helpful way to quickly get up to speed with the latest conversations in the forums. Not only does it help you follow discussions, but it also gives you access to advice and insights from moderators and seasoned Access users, who are always offering tips and helping out other members.

The next unseen feature is based on the date and time of the newest reply in each thread, so it will cycle you through the most recent activity, even if top-level comments were posted earlier. With time, it will help you find everything you have not yet read.

I encourage you to give this feature a try, especially if, like me, you want to stay up-to-date with everything happening in the community. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience in the forums, and this tool makes it much easier to follow along and participate.
