Transcript Welcome to Microsoft Word 2007, Basic Level 2, brought to you by WordLearningZone.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost. In today's class, we are going to begin by learning about the different kinds of Word Views, such as Print Layout View, Draft View, Fullscreen Reading, Web Layout, and Outline View. Then, we will do some more work with the FONT group. We will learn about the different underlining styles, superscript and subscript, how to use the Highlighter Pen, the Change Case button, and the Clear Formatting button.

Next, we will spend a lot of time with the Paragraph group. In the previous class, we learned how to align text: left, center, and right. Today, we will learn about full justification, line spacing, adding space before and after a paragraph, increase and decrease indent, and the indentation of a paragraph. We will learn about paragraph borders, paragraph shading, and how to turn borders and shading back off. We will also spend more time with Bullets. I will teach you how to customize your bulleted list, and we will see how to create numbered lists and multi-level lists. You will also learn how to sort those lists.

Next, we will work with Styles. We will learn what Styles are and why they are important. We will see how to change our Style Sets, our Color Sets, our Font Sets, and change the theme of the document. We will also learn how to work with the Format Painter. We will work with the Find and Replace features to find text in our document and replace it with other text. I will also teach you how to use a nifty feature called Shrink 1 Page, which will take your document and squeeze it down one more page. That is good if you get some remnants left over on the next page.

This lesson uses Microsoft Office Word 2007. If you are using Word 2003 or earlier, then you should visit my website and look for my Word Tutorials that cover these older versions.

Before taking this course, it is strongly recommended that you take Word 2007 Basic 1. In that class, you will learn about the Word Interface, entering and editing text, formatting text, using the clipboard, saving and loading your documents, and printing and emailing.

This is the Basic Level 2 course for Microsoft Word 2007. This class is for the novice user, who has little or no experience with Microsoft Word beyond my level 1 class. My Basic courses are designed for novice users who are new to Microsoft Word and just need to learn basic functionality. You will learn one good method for accomplishing tasks, and we will save all the extraneous details and options for later.

My Expert Series is for users who are comfortable with Word and who want to learn more about the standard features and functions that most people use. We will cover a lot of options, alternatives, shortcuts, tips and tricks, and really cover all the features of Word exhaustively.

The Advanced Series is designed to teach you all the lesser-known features of Word, such as recording macros and creating data forms. These are features that not everyone uses on a daily basis, but they can really add power to your documents.

Finally, my Developer Series is designed to teach you how to program in Visual Basic for Applications with Microsoft Word to develop Word-based programs for your users, integrate Word with other office applications, and much more.

Each of my series is broken down into different levels. For example, the Basic Series started with level 1, then was followed by level 2, which is this class, next will be level 3, and so on. Each level teaches you new and different topics in Microsoft Word, building on the lessons learned in the previous levels.

Now let's take a more detailed look at what we are going to cover in today's class.

In lesson 1, we are going to set up our document for today's class. I will show you how to insert random text into Microsoft Word using a function. Then we will see the different document views in Word, including draft, print layout, full screen reading, web layout, and outline mode.

In lesson 2, we are going to learn more about the font group on the Home tab. We are going to learn about underline, the different underline styles, subscript and superscript, the highlighter pen, the change case button, and the clear formatting button.

In lesson 3, we are going to spend some time with the paragraph group. We are going to learn how to align text left, center it, and align text to the right. We will also learn about full justification, line spacing, selecting the entire document with one keystroke, and how to add or remove space around a paragraph.

In lesson 4, we are going to continue working with the paragraph group. We are going to talk about increase, decrease indent, and paragraph borders and shading.

In lesson 5, we are going to finish up with the paragraph group. We will do some more with bullets. We will work with the bullet library, numbered lists, the numbering library, multi-level lists, and sorting lists and paragraphs.

In lesson 6, we are going to learn about styles. First, we are going to see how the format painter works. Then we are going to learn all about styles. What is a style? Why are they good? Why are they better than using the format painter? We will learn about the normal, heading one, and title styles.

In lesson 7, we are going to continue working with styles. We are going to see how to change the style set, the color set, and the font set. We will also see how to change the document's theme and work with the built-in theme sets.

In lesson 8, we are going to learn about find and replace. We will take a look at the editing group, the find, find next, and reading highlight functions. Then we will learn how to replace text in our document using replace and replace all.

In lesson 9, we are going to learn how to shrink our document one page by using the shrink to fit feature.

If you need help with Microsoft Word, you can post your questions in our student forums. If you are watching this course using our video player software or in our online theater, then you should see the student forum pop up next to each video. Here you will see a list of all the comments and questions posted about each lesson in addition to my responses to them. Feel free to join in the discussion and post your own thoughts.

To get the most out of this course, I recommend you sit back, relax, and watch each lesson through once without touching your computer. Then watch the lesson a second time, following along with my examples. Take the time to actually create the same document that I do. You will get the most out of the lessons if you follow along with me. If you do not understand something, feel free to watch the lesson again or rewind to any point in the video.

Most importantly, keep an open mind. New things are often confusing. If there is something you do not understand at first, that is okay. Just be patient and it will come to you eventually. Try your best and if you still have problems, post them in the student forum.

Summary Today's video from Word Learning Zone introduces Microsoft Word 2007, Basic Level 2. I am your instructor, Richard Rost. In this class, I will begin with a review of the different Word Views that are available. We'll look at Print Layout View, Draft View, Fullscreen Reading, Web Layout, and Outline View to understand their purposes and how each can help you work more efficiently with your documents.

Next, I'll spend some time with the FONT group on the Home tab. We'll explore the various underlining styles available, how to apply superscript and subscript formatting, and use the Highlighter Pen tool. I'll cover the Change Case feature, which lets you easily switch between different capitalization styles, and the Clear Formatting button, which removes formatting from selected text.

Following this, much of our focus will turn to the Paragraph group. In the previous course, I taught how to align text to the left, center, or right. Today, we'll cover full justification, how to control line spacing, and how to adjust space before and after each paragraph. I'll also teach you about increasing and decreasing paragraph indents and applying precise paragraph indentation. We'll look at how to set up paragraph borders and shading, and how to remove them when they are no longer needed. In addition, I'll show you more about Bullets, including customizing your bullet lists, creating numbered lists, working with multi-level lists, and sorting them.

The course continues with an overview of Styles. I'll explain what Styles are, why they matter, and how using them can help create consistent and professional documents. I'll demonstrate how to switch between Style Sets, modify your Color Sets and Font Sets, and change your document's overall theme. We'll also explore how to use the Format Painter for quick formatting changes. After that, I will guide you through the Find and Replace tools for searching and changing text throughout your document. Finally, I will introduce the Shrink 1 Page feature, which tries to reduce your document by one page to help you avoid awkward page breaks with just a few leftover sentences.

This course is based on Microsoft Office Word 2007. If you are using Word 2003 or an earlier version, I recommend checking my website for tutorials specifically tailored to those editions.

Before starting this class, it's highly recommended that you work through Word 2007 Basic 1. That course covers the fundamentals such as navigating the Word interface, entering and editing text, basic formatting, clipboard use, saving and opening documents, and printing or emailing your files.

This is the second basic level course, designed for those who have completed level 1 or have very little experience with Microsoft Word. These basic courses are aimed at beginners who want to master essential features without getting bogged down in every available option. Each level builds on what was taught previously, gradually introducing more advanced topics.

For those who want a deeper understanding of Word's typical functions and want to learn numerous tricks, shortcuts, and alternative methods, my Expert Series is more suitable. The Advanced Series covers complex features like recording macros and building forms, providing even more control over how you use Word. Finally, the Developer Series focuses on programming in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), teaching you how to automate processes and integrate Word with other Microsoft Office programs.

My courses are organized into levels. The Basic Series started with Level 1, this video is Level 2, and Level 3 will follow. Each builds on prior lessons, so you progress at a comfortable pace without getting overwhelmed.

Here's a more detailed look at the lessons in today's class:

Lesson 1 focuses on preparing your document and showing how to insert random text. We'll then examine all of Word's document views so you know how to pick the best one for each task.

Lesson 2 dives into the font options on the Home tab, including all types of underlining, superscript and subscript, the highlighter pen, changing letter case, and removing formatting.

Lesson 3 spends time on text alignment, moving beyond left, center, and right to include full justification, adjusting line spacing, quickly selecting the entire document, and fine-tuning spacing before and after paragraphs.

Lesson 4 continues with paragraph settings, teaching how to increase or decrease indents, and use borders and shading for emphasis.

Lesson 5 wraps up the paragraph group content with an in-depth look at bullets and numbering, using bullet and numbering libraries, working with multi-level lists, and sorting both lists and paragraphs.

Lesson 6 shifts to styles. First, I will show you how to use the Format Painter to copy formatting quickly, then explain what makes styles so effective for consistent, professional documents, and demonstrate basic styles like Normal, Heading One, and Title.

Lesson 7 builds on this by showing how to adjust the style set, switch color and font schemes, and apply a theme to your document to create a cohesive look.

Lesson 8 covers Word's Find and Replace features. You'll learn to search for text, use reading highlighting, and perform text replacements throughout your file.

Lesson 9 demonstrates how to use the Shrink to Fit (Shrink 1 Page) feature, which is handy for squeezing stray text from a new page back onto your previous one.

If you have any questions about using Word, you're welcome to participate in our student forums, where you can read and add comments about each lesson and see my responses. Take advantage of this resource to get help and discuss your progress with others.

To get the most out of this course, I suggest you watch each lesson once all the way through before trying anything yourself. Then, go through the lesson again at your computer, following along with my examples and creating the same documents I do. Repetition and participation are the best ways to solidify your learning, so feel free to replay any lesson or review anything that is unclear.

Above all, stay open to new ideas. Learning a new program can feel confusing at first, but patience and practice will help you get comfortable over time. If you get stuck, do not hesitate to ask for help in the student forums.

You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
