Rick,

Wanted to see if you'd consider a special badge for Veterans?

Thank you for your consideration,

-Raymond

I was Navy... if you add these.

I can provide my military ID, DD-214... I've also got ID.ME (for verifying military service)

Thanks,

-Raymond

..... or just a single Veteran badge like the last image posted.

Just a thought.

Yeah, that's another great idea. One of these days when I get some free time, I'll sit down and add those. It's a lot of work for me to add those to the system. It's not just taking the graphic and sticking it on the website. I have to have a way for you to indicate that you need that badge. I wouldn't ask people to prove it.

Take the Trekkie badge, for example. You don't really have to pass a quiz to get the Trekkie badge; if you know any of the answers to those questions, I'll give you the Trekkie badge. If you know who Jim Kirk is, you can have the Trekkie badge - all you have to say is that you like Star Trek. It's not really a trivia contest.

But then I have to code it into my back-end database to allow it to add that badge, and I gotta edit the website. It's just that's a lot of work. It'd be a couple of hours of work for me to add new badges. Alex bugged me for years to get a Stargate badge, and I didn't have to go through all that because I literally just hard-coded in his customer ID into the website.

So it would be a lot of work for me to add that, but it would definitely be cool, and if I get some free time, I will add that. I'll stick a thumb tack on this.

Understood... I'm not trying to create more work for you.  I do think recognizing the veteran stuff is highly regarded by others and creates a sense of appreciation.  While I often do not take credit for being a veteran, I thought this would be a really good idea even for others on your site who have served.  I just read a post today by Gary I think, who is also a veteran and would like to see people recognized.

Thank you again for considering this.

It wouldn't be super difficult to make a veteran badge that covers all the armed services. I could just have you guys tell me that, hey, I'd like the veteran badge, and I can slap it on your account manually, that adds a little more work for me, but it's not too bad.

But then I know I'll get emails from people because I have students from almost every country on the planet. What about their armed services? So that just becomes weird.

But yes, I'm a proud American, and this is a US-based business, so I guess they can just deal. LOL.

But yeah, I will add this when I get some free time. At least one "US Veteran" badge. Got a few Vets in my family. My grandfather and my uncles served.

Raymond  Maybe you can show it in your photo, dressed up with all the decorations.  Does Richard require headshots only?

Kevin I require nothing. I take people at their word for this badge. If someone is going to lie about it, that's their problem.

Richard

Thanks for the badge.  I'm sure there are members who served and don't want their picture posted.
