Cancellation of Memberships

It saddens me to say I must cancel my memberships for a while because I am at a dead standstill with my courses. I have been very patient in waiting for all the handbooks I have needed for my courses since I got to Developer 46. These are very iimportant to me and I have made that known and been very patient while the computer is repaired and working. It just appears there are so many other things that need to be kept going and I know Richard is stretched to his limits trying to please all the new students as well. So until I receive the handbooks that I need for my type of visual learning, I need to depart. It's been fun and yet I feel lost in the crowd. Thanks again and please let me know that my memberships have been canceled because I could not find a place in my Account that it is possible to do it myself. Best Regards, Ken

I have all the classes up the Developer 60. Obviously the A/I handbook or handbooks stopped around 45. I've rarely used them but I'd like to have them since we "paid " for them.  That and/or I may not want to watch an hour plus video that I might be able to get by the handbook.

FYI on the emails with the change for any of the classes is a link to send a message to Richard regarding whatever you need to ask him about.

Ken and Jeffrey - I completely understand the frustration, especially for those of you who prefer learning from written material. I know some people learn much better when they have something in front of them that they can read, highlight, refer back to, and follow along with.

That being said, I do want to clarify one thing. From the beginning, the handbooks have always been optional supplemental material. They've never been required for the classes, and I've never promised that every class would have a handbook available, or that one would be available by a particular date.

Years ago, the handbooks were written by hand, and they were extremely time-consuming to produce. I wrote many of them myself, and over the years I also had Alex, Sandra, Sami, and a few other people help with them. Eventually I stopped producing them regularly because the amount of time involved became too much compared to everything else I was trying to get done.

A couple of years ago, when AI became capable enough to help with the process, I built a Handbook Generator. It did an OK job, and technically I could still use that old system today and crank out handbooks for the missing classes. The problem is that I wasn't happy with the quality. They were basically cleaned-up transcripts with screenshots inserted where the scenes changed. That's useful, but to me, that's not really a handbook.

What I've been working on now is a much better Handbook Generator. My goal is to have it take the material from a class and turn it into an actual written manual - something organized and rewritten for reading, with explanations and screenshots in the right places, so that someone could reasonably follow the material even without watching the video. AI has gotten MUCH better at this, and I've been working on improving my system to take advantage of that.

That's also why this has taken longer than I originally hoped. I don't want to just churn out a bunch of mediocre handbooks to say they're done. I'd rather build the system properly and then use it to produce something that's actually worth having.

I apologize that it's taking so long. I know several of you have been waiting patiently, and the handbooks are very high on my priority list. I've mentioned recently that I'm working on them, and I am. I just can't give you a completion date, and I don't want to promise one until I'm confident I can deliver it.

If anyone has already paid for a handbook that hasn't been produced yet and you don't want to wait any longer, I'm perfectly happy to give you a merchandise credit for it. Just contact me and I'll take care of you.

And Ken, if you decide you need to cancel your memberships in the meantime, I completely understand. I'm always sorry to see a longtime member go, and I certainly appreciate your patience and support over the years.

The good news is that I don't have any travel planned for the next few months, so I'll finally have a good stretch of uninterrupted time to work on projects like this. The handbooks are absolutely one of the things on that list.

I know "I'm working on it" isn't as satisfying as "they'll be ready Tuesday," but that's the most accurate answer I can give you right now. I haven't forgotten about them, and I haven't abandoned them. I want the next generation of handbooks to be worth the wait.

And Ken I just re-read your message and realized you were asking me to cancel the membership for you. If that's what you want, I can absolutely take care of it. Just confirm that you want me to cancel it, or you can do it yourself from the My Account page. Under the Memberships section, you'll see your TechHelp Membership, which is your Gold membership. Click Manage to the right, and then on the Manage Your Memberships page, scroll to the bottom and click Cancel My Membership. It's just a couple of clicks. Or, if you'd rather have me take care of it for you, just confirm that's what you want and I'll get it canceled.
