Microsoft has rolled out accelerated app launches for Edge on Windows. When Edge is already running, including in the background, Windows can notify that existing process directly instead of starting an intermediary process first. This reduces the delay when opening Edge from Start, the taskbar or supported links that use Edge as their default browser.

Microsoft reports a 15% launch-speed improvement for most Windows users and gains of up to 33% during heavy multitasking. These figures compare launches while Edge is already running; they are not claims about webpage loading speed or starting the browser from scratch.

The feature requires Edge 150 or later and Windows 11 version 25H2, 26H1 or 26H2 with the October 2026 non-security update KB5127936 or later. Support for other scenarios, such as opening PDF files, is still being developed. See Microsoft's October 29 announcement for the requirements and limitations.
