Once upon a time, people identified the god Neptune as the source of storms at sea. Today we call these storms hurricanes. The only people who still call hurricanes acts of god are the people who write insurance forms.
There is NO such restriction with an Access database. Multiple people can update the database simultaneously without a problem. You will still run into record-locking problems if two people try to edit the SAME record at once, but that's an issue no matter WHAT database you're using, and you'll need a programming solution to prevent that.
