one partition
mandi

Hi,
I was just wondering what harm it would do to just use one partiition with xp?  I burn all of my pics, music and video to disc immediately, so there's really nothing i'm concerned about losing.  Would it harm my system or help it?

Answer from Richard Rost:

There wouldn't really be any harm in just using one partition. Most new PCs (especially laptops) are configured this way.

Personally, I prefer using three partitions: one for the operating system (Windows), one for applications, and the third for my data. It just makes it easier to backup my data without having to backup all of my apps or the OS.

It also makes it easier to make an "image" of the OS without having to backup all of the data or apps in that image.

There are PLUSES to multiple partitions, but there really aren't any major MINUSES to only having one.
