lock the log in on a PC

How do I lock my ASUS Eee PC so no one gets on and I can enter with a password?

Answer from Richard Rost:

I can't give you an answer for your specific computer, but there are several levels of security you can invoke to keep people out of your PC.

First is your basic Windows password. Windows XP is pretty good at security, so make sure your account and the administrator account have good, strong passwords. You can set this in the Control Panel.

Second, you could set a boot password for your computer. This is a special password that you set in your computers BIOS/CMOS that you're prompted for before your operating system even loads. HOW to do this is different for every motherboard manufacturer, but generally you press DELETE or F2 (again different for each PC) and hold it down when your system first boots, and then you'll be taken into the BIOS setup where you can specify a password.

WARNING: be very careful doing this. You could corrupt your system settings accidentally if you don't do it right. Also, if you forget this password, you'll need professional help to undo it. This might be something better to have a tech support guy do in the first place.

Finally, many desktop PCs also have a KEY that will shut off the keyboard. Those work good too.

Hope this gives you some ideas.
