The lifetime of a human being is measured by decades, the lifetime of the Sun is a hundred million times longer. Compared to a star, we are like mayflies, fleeting ephemeral creatures who live out their lives in the course of a single day.

Manual Copy/Paste Limit in v2007
Al

I have a worksheet with 40 columns and 1 row.
When I highlight this row (all 40 cols) and copy it using Ctrl-C, then paste it down to the next 1000 rows, all is fine.
I can go as far as approx 5000 rows but beyond that, I get a runtime error:1004 - Selection Too Large.
I have plenty of RAM and disk on a new Windows XP machine with a legal copy of Office 2007.  I re-booted several times and made sure no other apps were running.  I also tried this on a different pc also running Excel 2007 - same problem.
I used to do this type of copy/paste on the old Excel 2003 without difficulty; sometimes copying down to nearly 60,000 rows - even on a pc with less memory than what I have now.

I read on forums that other people have run into the same problem.
But nobody has a solution other than to do the copy/paste in bite-sized chunks.  This is quite frustrating.
Hope you can help!

Thank you.

Answer from Richard Rost:

The only thing I can think of is that you haven't installed the latest service packs for Microsoft Office. I know there were a lot of bugs (especially in Excel) in the original versions.

Beyond that, I really don't know what the problem is. Excel should handle 5000 rows just fine… but if you have anything more than a few hundred rows you REALLY should be using a database.
