ASP or ASP.NET

A student recently asked me: "I'm interested in learning ASP.NET.  I know you've stated ASP is not the same as ASP.NET, but can be helpful... do you think I should take these courses? Would it help?"

My response: "I definitely recommend learning ASP. First of all, ASP is still perfectly relevant in 2022. Lots of sites, including mine, are build solely on Classic ASP. Second, it's much easier to learn than ASP.NET, especially if you've never done any web programming before. Finally, if you do decide to upgrade to ASP.NET later, you can still keep all of your ASP pages (backwards compatible) and it's easy to upgrade them to ASP.NET if you choose."

Could not agree more. I would definitely recommend your HTML class and your ASP classes to anyone who wants learn web design. I can tell you they are by far the easiest and IMHO 'The Best" way to get started. Could not have gotten my web site up and running without them.

PS: Looked I into ASP.net and found it much easier to understand now that I have some ASP classic under my belt. If I need to upgrade in the future, it should not be a problem.

Have a Great Day Everyone!

I've been saying "I'll upgrade to ASP.NET next year" for the past 10 years now. Now I'm just to the point where my ASP site is running fine after all these years. It's built. There's really not a lot of added functionality I'll get from ASP.NET that I don't have now... so... I'm happy. It's fast, stable, and the VB Script for ASP is almost exactly the same as Access VBA, so I don't have to constantly think in two different programming languages.
