Proper Backup of Hard Drive
Mark

Have just started studying PC repair. I knew a PC Tech awhile back working from his home. Seems he would backup a client's data to an internal hard drive(s) on a spare tower he had. Only reason I can figure is maybe he had 2 or more hard drives in the tower and thought that better than backing up to an external hard drive. Would that be the reason or is there some other advantage to his backup method to another PC internal hard drive(s)?
Also, when I eventually begin my own PC repair, what is the minimum capacity I'd need on a backup hard drive? I hear of terrabyte hard drives but just want to make sure I'd have enough storage capacity to backup whatever a client wanted to save.

Thank you greatly Richard.

Answer from Richard Rost:

The only major benefit to an EXTERNAL hard drive is portability. You can take the data with you… especially good if the building starts on fire. It's always a good idea to have a copy of your critical data in an offsite location.

As far as size goes, that all depends on what you're backing up. A lot of machines now are coming with 1TB drives. I personally have a couple of 2TB external drives that I use for storage. They're cheap and fast now. Every PC tech should have one.
