My old computer with windows XP died and I have a spare that I have not used for a long time that has windows 2000 on it and I have a windows XP update disk that I was going to use but I have been told that this could do more harm than good. Your thoughts please. Thanks.

I have NEVER been a fan of installing one operating system over another one. Even so-called "upgrade" options cause more trouble then they're worth. I've always been a proponent of FORMATTING a drive first and then installing a CLEAN copy of Windows.
