Count and CountIF

"I am making a risk assessment spread sheet where Solders are asked a questions and then respond "Y" or "N." I want to count all the ends and based on a range like 0-4 "y" responses would put an "x" in a green box, or 5-9" would put an "x" in a yellow box, 10-13, an "x" in a red box, and then 14+ "Y" answers would go in a dark red box. The tally boxes by color are on the botton of the spreadsheet. However, there are certain questions that just by answering "Y" should automatically put them in the red box regardless of whether they have 9 or less "y"s. I think the correct command is "count" and "countIF" but I'm having a problem figuring out how to phrase the conditions based on what I have described."

You are correct. COUNTIF is probably the function you're looking for. You might also need an IF function thrown in there to override the value based on that additional criteria you mentioned. Look over these tutorials, and if you still have specific questions on how to do this, let me know:
