Which Lookup Function to Use
Darrin Hebert

I've built an excel spreadsheet for helping me with an online golf game.  Essentially its for calculating variables related to wind speed and direction, shot distance... among other things.   My question is related to putting.

Variables: Putter Strength(which changes based on putt distance), Distance, elevation (uphill/downhill), Green Speed (fast, very fast, etc).

I'm trying to solve by having a table of variables with a look up on Green Speed and putter strength, returning the value at the intersection of these two variables.

Example Table: (screen shot coming in a moment)

Green Speed 9, 10, 11
Putter Strength 10, 15, 30
return values +6, +4, +0

I started with XLookup, but I think because I have multiple(2) lookups (Green Speed/Putter Strength) is doesn't work I could be wrong.  Not sure if one of the Match functions will work here.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try this formula changing the cell references for your sheet:

=INDEX($B$4:$G$12, MATCH(I4, $A$4:$A$12, 0), MATCH(J4, $B$3:$G$3, 0))

Worked like a charm... Thank you so much for your assistance... I was not familiar with Index & Match... but makes perfect sense.

Thanks.
