I have rebuilt my database 3x's. I have deleted all the data from my data table and imported only the structure into new tables. All my queries work as expected EXCEPT the append query. I continuously get "Cannot open database '. It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt." When I change it to a select query, it works... I'm puzzled and annoyed

I would delete the append query and then rebuild it one field at a time. You may have some corrupted data. Open whatever table /s you are using and try sorting on all the columns. Make sure you can sort and don't see any weird symbols...
