And what happens when you stop innovating? Everyone else catches up, your jobs go overseas, and then you cry foul: Ooohh, they're paying them less over there, and the playing field is not level. Well, stop whining and start innovating.

Conditional Formatting

I have a spreadsheet which has one column of expiry dates and i was wondering if Excel 2007 had an option of producing a reminder that can be set on each of these dates to go off 3 months before the actual date. Sort of like a reminder in Outlook.

I have tried using a formula
=IF(AND(L2-TODAY()<90,L2>TODAY())"<90,">90"
to calculate how many days until it expires and then use my conditional formatting from there to color which will expire in the next 90 days but i am having issues with it, I have one that has expired and as its a date from last year its thinking its greater then 90 days (which is kind of true) but i need it to fall as being overdue. I hope this makes sense. In short i need a formula that will tell me what is due for renewal within 90 days. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Richard Answers:

Setting up an actual reminder would be tough, and would involve some programming, but you can use conditional formatting to make those overdue dates stand out.

1. Select the column with your dates
2. Go to Home > Conditional Formatting > Manage Rules
3. Click New Rule...
4. Format only cells that contain
5. Cell Value, Less Than
6. For the value type in: =TODAY()-90
7. Set a color
8. Hit OK, OK

Notice all the dates over 90 days old are set to your color.
