Hackers would sooner breach big companies and directly steal your personal info than sending mass phishing emails and hoping a small percentage would reply. Tons of companies like Yahoo, Microsoft, Ebay, etc. have had their data breached and millions of users' data stolen.
If you go to a website called "Have I Been Pwned?" ( https://haveibeenpwned.com/ ), you can check if your email address has been stolen in one of those data breaches.
Phishing is also common in other messaging platforms like SMS (texting), Whatsapp, WeChat, etc., even in YouTube comments.
Phone calls could be phishing attempts too. AI voices would surely be used in spam calls, if it hasn't been done already.
Yeah, I watched a news show not too long ago about how people are falling victim to a scam where hackers use AI voice synthesis to pretend to be one of your loved ones. They call you and say that they've been kidnapped and you have to send $1,000 or whatever to a specific person or they're going to be killed.
It's already pretty easy to do, and pretty soon you won't be able to tell the difference between real video and deep fake video.
