I am wondering how to type special characters as I enter data ie letters with tilde (not sure how to spell it) this is for like Spanish words and names and other languages as well.

Are you using Word? Go to Insert -- Symbols

Open up "Character Map" from the Windows taskbar to see a complete list of characters of the chosen font. The keystroke to type a particular character is shown at the lower right corner. See picture below. "Alt+0232" means press and hold the Alt key, then press 0232, then release the Alt key.

You're welcome. It is far easier doing this on mobile devices: you just press and hold an alphabet, and all the foreign alphabets appear as options (see picture below). I wish the PC platform has the equivalent of that, instead of having us memorize the different Alt codes.
