Intro In lesson 204, you will learn how to use auto-text and auto-complete features, outline your documents, and track changes or revisions in Microsoft Word. This lesson uses Microsoft Word 2003 but highlights important differences for users of Word 2000 and Word 2002 (XP).
Transcript Welcome to Microsoft Word 204 brought to you by WordLearningZone.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost.

In today's lesson, we are going to cover auto-text and auto-complete, outlining your documents, and tracking changes or revisions in documents.

This class follows Microsoft Word 203. I strongly recommend you take Word 203 and all the classes before it before taking this course.

In this lesson, I will be using Microsoft Word 2003. However, I will point out the differences for Word 2000 users. If you are using XP, which is the Word 2002 edition, you will find that most of the features are the same as 2000. Some of them look like 2003, so you are kind of 50-50.

As with all of my classes, I recommend you sit back, relax, and watch each video through once without doing anything. Then, replay the video again and follow along with the examples. You will get a lot out of this class if you actually do the samples that I am doing. Don't just watch it, but make a sample document and follow along. But watch the video through once first, and then follow along.

While you are watching my lessons, I want you to keep an open mind. Studies have shown that people who are open to learning have the best retention rates. If you think positively and believe you can learn something, chances are you will perform better than someone who has closed their mind. You can learn this stuff. It is not hard.

Of course, watching the videos more than once and practicing will reinforce what you have learned.

Now, while you are going through the course, if you need help, visit our user forums. If you are watching the course in my custom video player, you should see the user forum pop up to the right if you are online and connected to the user forum. You can see any questions about this particular lesson right there or you can post your own.

Of course, if you are watching this lesson online in my online theater, you will also see that user forum window pop up. This is where you can post questions if you have any problems with today's lessons.

Summary Today's video from Word Learning Zone covers some advanced features in Microsoft Word that will help you become more productive and efficient with your documents. Specifically, I am going to explain how to use auto-text and auto-complete, how to structure your documents using the outlining tools, and how to track changes or revisions in your files.

This course is a continuation of the previous class, Microsoft Word 203. I highly suggest that you complete Word 203, and the classes that come before it, before starting with this lesson to make sure you are up to speed.

For this lesson, I will be working with Microsoft Word 2003. I will also point out where Word 2000 has differences, so you won't be left behind if you're on that version. Those of you using Word XP, which is the 2002 edition, will find that most features are similar to 2000, but some look more like the 2003 version, so you will see a mix of both interfaces.

My recommendation for all of my classes is to first sit back and watch the entire video. Don't worry about following along the first time. Just watch to get a good overview. Then, on your second viewing, try to follow along and recreate the examples on your own. This hands-on approach will help reinforce the concepts and give you valuable practice. It's always better to work through the samples yourself rather than just watching passively.

I also want to encourage you to approach the lesson with an open mind. Studies show that learners who keep a positive attitude and believe they can master new material tend to retain information better. There is no reason you cannot learn these features. With a little practice, they become second nature.

Repeating the videos and practicing the techniques will help you remember them even better.

If you have any questions or run into difficulties while working through the course, make use of the user forums on my website. If you are using my custom video player and you are online, the forum will appear alongside the lesson, where you can read other students' questions and post your own. The same goes if you are watching in my online theater - you'll see a forum window where you can participate in discussions about this specific lesson.

You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
Topic List This is an introduction to a Microsoft Word tutorial video. It briefly outlines what topics will be covered, such as auto-text, auto-complete, outlining documents, and tracking changes, but does not actually provide any instruction or thorough explanation of those topics.
