I am your instructor Richard Rost.In today's course, we are going to cover a lot of different topics, including drop caps, signature lines, inserting the date and time, inserting symbols, the equation editor, footnotes and endnotes, envelopes and labels, and downloading templates from Microsoft Office Online. This lesson uses Microsoft Office Word 2007. If you are using Word 2003 or earlier, then you should visit my website and look for my Word tutorials that cover these older versions. This lesson follows Word 2007 Basic Level 4. Basic Level 4 was all about illustrations and graphics, including pictures, clip art, shapes, text boxes, smart art, charts, and Word art. I would not say that you absolutely have to take Basic 4 before this class. However, it would be helpful. This is the Basic Level 5 class for Word 2007. This class is for the novice user, who has little or no experience with Microsoft Word, beyond my Level 1, 2, 3, and 4 classes. My basic courses are designed for novice users who are new to Microsoft Word and just need to learn the basic functionality. You will learn one good method for accomplishing most tasks and will save all the extraneous details for later. The Expert Series is designed for users who are comfortable with Word and want to learn more about the standard features and functions that most people use. We will cover a lot of options, alternatives, shortcuts, tips and tricks, and really cover the details of Word exhaustively. The Advanced Series is designed to teach you all the lesser-known features of Word, such as recording macros and creating data forms. These are features that not everyone uses on a daily basis, but they can really add extra power to your documents. Finally, the Developer Series is designed to teach you how to program in Visual Basic for Applications with Microsoft Word, to develop Word-based programs for your users and integrate Word with other office applications. Each series is broken down into different levels. For example, the Basic Series started off with Level 1, 2, 3, and 4. This is Level 5. Each level teaches you new and different topics in Microsoft Word, building on the lessons learned in previous levels. Now, let's take a more detailed look at what we are going to cover in today's class. In lesson 1, we are going to learn about drop caps and signature lines. In lesson 2, we are going to learn about inserting the date and time into our documents, both as a date time code that is automatically updated and as standard text. In lesson 3, we are going to learn about inserting symbols into our documents, as well as take a brief look at the Equation Editor. In lesson 4, we are going to learn about footnotes and endnotes. We will talk about the automatic numbering of footnotes and endnotes and how to get them to renumber on each page. In lesson 5, we are going to learn how to create envelopes to go along with our letters. We are going to learn how to print envelopes, how to set up the options for envelopes, and how to attach an envelope to your document so the next time you print the letter, your envelope is saved with the document. In lesson 6, we are going to learn about labels. We are going to talk about mailing labels, making a full sheet of the same label, and printing just one label. I will show you one of the label templates from Microsoft Office Online. In lesson 7, we are going to learn how to download templates for different documents from Microsoft Office Online. If you need help with Microsoft Word, you can post your questions in our student forums. If you are watching this course using our video player software or on our online theater, then you should see the student forum pop up next to each video. Here you will see all the comments and questions posted about each lesson in addition to my responses to them. Feel free to join in the discussion and post your own thoughts. To get the most out of this course, I recommend you sit back, relax, and watch each lesson once through without touching your computer. Then watch the lesson a second time following along with my examples. Take the time to actually create the same document that I do in class. You will get the most out of the lessons if you follow along with me. If you do not understand something, feel free to watch the lesson again or rewind to any point in the video. Most importantly, keep an open mind. New things are often confusing and if there is something you do not understand at first, that is okay. Just be patient, it will come to you eventually. Try your best, and if you still have questions, post them in the student forum. QuizQ1. Who is the intended audience for the Word 2007 Basic Level 5 course?A. SummaryToday's video from Word Learning Zone covers the essential topics found in Word 2007 Basic Level 5. I am your instructor, Richard Rost, and in this course, we will explore a variety of features that help you get more out of Microsoft Word.We will begin by working with drop caps, which are large capital letters that can make your documents look more professional, and signature lines, which are useful for adding a polished look to letters and forms. Next, we will move on to inserting the date and time in your documents, both as text and as a dynamic code that updates automatically each time you open or print the file. After that, we will practice adding special symbols, such as currency signs or mathematical operators, and take a look at using the Equation Editor for more complex mathematical expressions. In the following lesson, I will show you how to add footnotes and endnotes, discuss how they can be automatically numbered, and explain the options for having them renumber on every page. You will also learn to create and print envelopes for your letters, including customizing the envelope options and saving them with your documents for easy reprinting in the future. We will go over mailing labels as well, including how to print an entire sheet of the same label or just a single label, and I will introduce you to using one of the label templates available from Microsoft Office Online. Finally, we will learn how to download and use different templates from the Microsoft Office Online library, which can save you time by providing premade formats for various document types. If you are using an older version of Word, such as Word 2003 or earlier, I recommend checking out the tutorials on my website for those editions. This lesson continues from Word 2007 Basic Level 4, which focused on working with illustrations and graphics. While you do not absolutely need to have completed Level 4 before jumping into Level 5, it will definitely help give you a better foundation. This course is designed for novice users who have either little or no experience with Word except what is covered in my first four levels. The Basic Series teaches the key tools and methods you need to get started without overwhelming you with unnecessary details. If you want to go deeper, my Expert Series covers more options, shortcuts, and alternative methods, while the Advanced Series explains lesser-known features like recording macros and creating data forms. For those interested in programming and integrating Word with other Microsoft Office programs, there is also a Developer Series that introduces Visual Basic for Applications. Each series is structured into levels, with each new class building upon the lessons from the previous ones. Level 5, which we are working on today, introduces new topics not covered in earlier sessions. To get the most from this course, I suggest first watching each lesson all the way through while you sit back and relax. Then, go through the lesson a second time, following along and recreating the sample documents with me. Practicing as you watch will help you lock in the skills. Feel free to review any lesson or revisit specific segments as needed. If something is not making sense right away, do not worry. Take your time, and remember that learning anything new can sometimes be confusing at first. If you are still having trouble or have any questions, you can post your questions in the student forums, where you will also find comments and answers from fellow students as well as from me. For complete step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here, you can find the full video tutorial on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
