Cutting PBS support (0.012% of budget) to help balance the Federal budget is like deleting text files to make room on your 500 GB hard drive

Rick, would you please share a link to the 2 TB Network Storage that you mentioned at 5:00? I am very interested because you said that you can use as a media player for movies on a TV.

Richard was probably referring to a network-attached storage (NAS) device.  If you search "NAS 2TB" you may find what you need.  To stream media from the NAS to your TV, you may also need an streaming app, such as Plex.  An NAS is bulky and not portable, and that's why I've never used it.  I often just store media on a regular portable hard drive or thumb drive, then plug it into the USB port of my smart TV or streaming device.

That does sound a lot easier. And I do need it to be portable.  Thanks, Kevin.

You can also cast media from your smartphone to the streaming device of your TV, which I imagine is what most people do nowadays, since smartphones are usually where they keep photos, songs, etc.

Storing media on NAS and hard drives is a fairly old-school thing to do.  I recorded a lot of TV shows to hard drives in the 2000s because back then, if you missed a show (Super Bowls, Olympics, specials with no repeats, etc.), there was no way to see them again -- unlike today, when you can see replays of practically everything on YouTube for free.  I stopped recording shows about 6 years ago -- after having gone through 18 hard drives.

I have three external hard drives of movies, but when I tried to use one a couple of days ago, it took forever to load, and was super slow.  I was thinking I might need an alternative, but may just get a newer hard drive and hope they will copy over.  I'm getting to the age where I was thinking something would be nice if I end up in a nursing home or somewhere.  Thanks for taking time to chat with me.

I've been using some SanDisk 4TB external SSD's for backing up files and data.   I've ripped about 1600 of my DVD's and Blu-ray movie and TV shows onto one of these 4TB drives.   They're lightning fast with their USB-C ports.  www.amzn.com/B08RX4QKXS
