Hypersnap vs Snip and Sketch

Hi Richard,

You've mention Hypersnap several times in your Access Training Videos, and that you prefer it over Snip and Sketch.

Could you tell us Why?

I like Snip and Sketch, but I'm open to something else it's better.

Regards,
Mike Albert

I have been using HyperSnap for years, probably 20 years now, and I'm just comfortable with it. It's got features and add-ons that I like, but isn't too complex. You can do basic editing in it. It's fast, quick loading. And it's very customizable down to the hotkeys and what features you want to see and use easily. I don't know, I just like it. I've been using it forever, so I'm used to it. I even asked ChatGPT to give me a list of reasons why HyperSnap is better, and here's what it came up with...

Here are several reasons why HyperSnap might be considered better than Windows Snip & Sketch, depending on your needs:

1. Advanced Editing Tools
HyperSnap offers a wide array of editing features such as advanced annotations, shapes, text overlays, and image effects. It goes beyond basic editing and lets you create polished screenshots without needing a separate image editor.

2. Region Capture Flexibility
HyperSnap provides highly customizable region capture options, such as window capture, scrolling window capture, and polygonal region selection, which are more advanced than Snip & Sketch's basic freeform and rectangular selections.

3. Scrolling Screenshots
One standout feature of HyperSnap is the ability to capture entire scrolling web pages or documents. Snip & Sketch does not support this functionality, requiring third-party tools for similar tasks.

4. Image Formats and Customization
HyperSnap supports a wide range of output formats and offers customizable image compression and quality settings. Snip & Sketch has limited format options, primarily PNG and JPG.

5. Hotkeys and Automation
HyperSnap allows for extensive customization of hotkeys, making it faster to use once set up. You can automate tasks like capturing, saving, and opening the screenshot in specific applications.

6. TextSnap (Text Capture)
HyperSnap can capture text from applications or screens where text cannot typically be selected or copied, such as menus or error messages. This is not something Snip & Sketch can do.

7. Custom Watermarks and Branding
HyperSnap lets you add watermarks or other branding elements directly within the app, which is useful for professional documentation or content creation.

8. Integrated File Management
HyperSnap includes built-in tools for managing and organizing captured screenshots, making it easier to handle a large volume of images.

9. Enhanced Productivity Features
Features like multiple monitors support, batch processing, and clipboard management make HyperSnap more suited for power users or professionals who need frequent and detailed captures.

10. Tailored User Interface
HyperSnap offers a customizable interface with toolbars and options that can be arranged to suit your workflow, which is not possible with Snip & Sketch.

If your screenshot needs are basic, Snip & Sketch might suffice. However, for advanced users or professionals, HyperSnap provides far more versatility and efficiency.

Thanks Richard, I think I'll give it a shot.
