SummaryToday's video from Excel Learning Zone is Microsoft Excel 223 Data Analysis 4, focusing on PivotTables, Part 1. I am your instructor, Richard Rost.In this class, I introduce you to the basics of pivot tables in Excel. We start with an explanation of what a pivot table is and why it is a powerful tool for data analysis. I will guide you through the process of building a pivot table using the built-in wizard. We will explore how to manipulate and pivot your data to gain meaningful insights. Throughout the lesson, we use a sample sales log and an employee list to demonstrate these features. I will cover how to filter the data within your pivot table to focus on the information most relevant to you, and how to sort pivot table data to better organize your results. Before tackling this lesson, you should have completed the previous course in the series, Excel 222 Data Analysis Part 3, as well as all earlier Microsoft Excel courses. This background knowledge is important because it builds the foundation needed for working with more advanced Excel features like pivot tables. Although I will be using Microsoft Excel XP 2002 during the class, the topics covered are applicable to just about every version of Excel. You might notice some visual differences if you are using a newer release, and a few features might look slightly different, but the majority of the material will be the same. Normally, I encourage students to follow along by typing the data I use in class. However, since pivot tables are most effective with large lists of data, I suggest copying sample data directly from the website at excellearningzone.com under Excel 223. There, you will find links to all the Excel sheets used in today's lesson. You can copy this data into your own worksheets easily. During the course, I will show you how to do this step by step. Additionally, if you have installed the related videos, you can find a sample Excel worksheet file on your computer in the Program Files directory under 599CD\\Excel\\Excel223. If you run into any problems or have questions as you work through the class, you are always welcome to reach out through the contact page at excellearningzone.com. You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
