Search Results

Richard,
Earlier I had asked if there is a way to open Search Results to a Form instead of a Query.
I discovered by accident, that I could build a Form from a Query. It mostly works, but not exactly what I was hoping for. I don't know if that is right, wrong, good or bad.
When you do it this way, you get the Parameter Dialog Box to enter what you are looking for, but then it opens in a Form from there.
Sometimes the Queries are too wide to see everything with out scrolling, but this does work. I can view it Top to Bottom in one view.
Thank you!

Is this what you're trying to do? Search Form 2.0

Hi David,  You could make a continuous form and have a searchbox on it, then use a double click event to open a form for the selected record from your search results. That is what I often use. John

Hello Richard, et al.
This is what I have made so far. I think I need to say that I am NOT doing this Database for my company, I am merely just trying to learn as much as I can about different types of databases and how to build them, and to make easier for people to use them.
Thank you.

The data source that my company uses is a mess, as far as Richard teaches proper Databse desing goes. Phone numbers are not entered correctly, and other issues that are contrary to Richards methods, but for my company, it works and they are not about to change it anytime soon, as they are under contract with the Database Management Supplier. I see thier system, and the first thing I think of, is Richards way is better. I am no Developer. I could be, but I just can't do it a this time. This database has over 96,000 customer ID's in it. It is a monster.
Thank you for putting up with me, and not knowing what I  need to know yet.
Right now, this is pretty much an EXTREME  hobby, nowhere good enough to be a designer.

Hi David, What do you want to see from this point? I assume  CustomerNameSearchQ is the name for your Query. You can open a form with this query. Let us know what you need.  John

Hello Richard and others.
What I would like to be able to do is after I have used my SearchF form and get which ever result I am looking for, I would like to be able to see it in a Form similar to a CustomerListF Form which is a continuous form and then choose a customer from that list and see ALL of that customers data in a CustomerF form.
The screen shots show what I have made so far. It all works, I just don't know if it is the right way to do this.

I have search queries for each of my search parameters.
I made a form using the needed search query. Doing it this way, I get the Enter Parameter Field Dialog Box, after doing that, it will bring up the form I have made for that query. This is where I am not sure if I have made it right or not. This is the What Would Richard Do question comes up.

Thank you.

Richard,
I know you are very busy, but any suggestions on this forum string?
Thank you!

Nine times out of ten, the Enter Parameter Value box means something is spelled wrong. Check your spelling. I'd need to see more of your design in order to tell you for sure.

Also, here's a quick list of what GPT says to check:

Based on that student's comment, the problem could be one of the following:

1. Incorrect Syntax or Typo  -  There might be a minor syntax error causing the VBA code or query to fail.
2. Form Not Open  -  If the user is referring to a form control in VBA, the form may not be open, leading to an error.
3. Control Name Issue  -  The control being referenced might have a different name than expected.
4. Field Missing in Record Source  -  The referenced field may not exist in the form's record source.
5. Null Values  -  If the field contains a null value, the code may not handle it properly.
6. Data Type Mismatch  -  There might be an attempt to compare or assign values of incompatible data types.
7. DLookup or Other Function Error  -  If they're using DLookup, there could be an issue with the criteria string or the field name.

Hello Richard.
In a nutshell, i would like to see my search results show in a form if possible.
I made a Search Query with the fields: CustomerId, CustomerName and PhoneNumber.
I then made a from using that Search Query. Then I get the Search Parameter Dialog Box, I type in what I am search for, then the form I have made from the query launches showing the results based on my search. I can the select from the form the record I want to see using the details button, then my CustomerF form launches, show all the details for that Customer.
There is probably a better way to do this, but it does work, as you can see by the pictures I've posted.
Thank you,
David

That's great! How about, instead of using a parameter popup from your query, you have the query get the value from an open form field? Maybe put the parameter box on another form, like your main menu. Value From a Form
