Display Phone Number

Richard,
This may be a silly question, but, here goes.
I have built a Contact Database that has a field for phone number.
It is setup as a text field, i.e.,8005551212, I have named it LookUpPhoneNumber in my table, to make it easy for a search, or so I think. I also have a field named PhoneNumber, also set up as a text field, this one is set up like this, (800)555-1212.
My form show these same fields, and the search runs and works okay as is.
Here is my question,
Can I have my search return the phone number with out having to show the LookUpPhoneNumber field on my form? Would I just have to make a different form with out that field?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Hi David, Have you thought about using a continuous form for the phone number(s) using the Customer number as the link? You could show all the customer's phone numbers, fax numbers etc. I don't see the value in your look up phone.   John

I didn't want to put an actual value in the phone number field.
In my Table, I have a Field Named: LookUpPhoneNumber: entered like this: 8005551212, to make it searchable.
I have a Field Named PhoneNumber with an input mask entered like this: (800)555-1212 so it will look like a phone number.
In my Add/Edit Form, I brought in ALL of my fields. doing that it showed my LookUpPhoneNumber on the form. I forgot that didn't really need to do that.
I think it works, but I'm sure there id a better way to do this.
Thank you for your input.

Hi David,

I added a search field to my table and put everything I want to look for in there. First, I strip all special characters ( ) - . , ... before adding the data and concatenate all the fields. Then, before searching, I strip the search data the same way and look for records that contain the stripped search value in the search field.

This works very well. If the user types in (0800)-123456 or 800123456, they get the same result.

In the After Update event of the fields included in the search field, you also need to update the search field.

David Clement I don't understand why you have two fields for Phone Number and for Date of Birth. How are you performing the search?

I thought that is how you are supposed to do this. My Search Queries are wriiten like this:
Like "*" & [Forms]![SearchF]![LookUpDateOfBirth] & "*"
Like "*" & [Forms]![SearchF]![PhoneNumber] & "*"
They both seem to works okay, but as I am definitely not an expert yet, I am quite sure there is a better way to do this.
