Dropdown Great Bridge

Just wanted to say I think it's great how you take the time to make a video for people who may use different terminology than what traditionally is shown in Access even though you already have tons of videos on the subject.

It makes it nice when you're searching for what you want but you know it by a different name. I.E. it took some getting used to for me when I first started using Access since I was used to HTML, I was looking for a "SELECT" control for a form. Granted, it only takes a few moments of poking around and adding controls to see what they do, or doing a web search, but some people just get turned off if they feel things are too different from what they know.

Great work!

Thank you. I'm glad you appreciate that. A lot of people ask me questions. I get emails and comments on here and on YouTube from people asking how to do dropdowns and such. So a lot of it is the correct terminology, but I'll be completely honest - I want to help people with what they're searching for. My goal (selfishly) is to be at the top of Google and YouTube results because then my videos get more views. But if you don't know that it's called a combo box, you won't know to search for a combo box. You don't know what you don't know, so that's why I made that video and a couple others because I want to answer people's search queries.

If you ever search for something that you're looking for and you can't find it, and one of my videos doesn't show up, I want to know about it because I'll fill that gap.

One topic that I've looked up and didn't find a video here for is Enums. I got curious in different uses after an article on Mike Wolfe's Week in Review a Couple weeks ago. That video was for excel but since researching, i think they're kind of handy in vba for access as well.

I've started using them so I don't have to keep looking back to HelperT or notepad for what something's id will be if i need to act on it in code. I also, just last week, had to fix some bad code in an Access database written by someone else that had a tonof different modules using late binding for outlook email. If they would have been willing to pay for it, I'd have cleaned up the code to fewer modules and functions, but as it were, I just had to keep looking up what everything meant. Finally got frustrated and added a global mod with an Enum to "rebind" the values so they just popped up in intellisense for me.

That's a good idea. I haven't covered those in a TechHelp video. I did cover them in a developer class. I can't remember which one, and I don't feel like searching right now, but I know I've talked about it before. That would make a good video. Thanks!

Can't find a Developer class where you covered Enumerations. They were used, however, in Custom MsgBox 9.

Yeah, I know I've used them before, but they could definitely use their own little lesson. I don't think they're complicated enough to need a full developer lesson, but a TechHelp video would be nice.

I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about (Declare PtrSafe Function EnumWindows Lib), but if so it is covered in the following video:

List Open Programs

Yes, very similar to that Sandra. But I don't have a video just on enumerations yet. It uses an enumeration, and I briefly go over what it is, but there's a lot more to it. I don't have it hitting on keywords on Google searches, so I definitely need a video on it. lol
