Documents images with SQL Server

This is a question for all the gurus out there on this forum. Richard has convinced me to use SQL Server for the backend, so I am moving away from SharePoint. It is an excellent move, as SharePoint has severe issues in the long run. The issue I have run into now is where to put all my documents and images. I have been using OneDrive but would like to move away from it, as it has a few issues. Thanks to Richard's suggestion, I am using WihHost, which is a wise choice. Is there a way to put something on WinHost where I can place my Documents and Images folders that the Frontend can access for everyone?

Hi Don

I would love to hear what the "Gurus" will suggest.
Establishing a network (or at least a Network drive) in the office to store your documents where the Frontend of each will be able to access the shared documents is the most common solution.

Do you need to access your documents from remote sites?

I've used AWS for the file storage for most projects that require remote access. Otherwise there are a few solutions to a LAN version, the most easy to be a network drive as Sami suggested.

The first time I was looking for a solution for this, I spoke with winhost. The person I spoke to said they do allow you to store stuff there "to an extent". They would not elaborate on the limit, but there would be a limit, and then you wouldn't be able to do it anymore once you reached it. So unless they have changed policy, you need to use 3rd party. Private SQL server might be different because it's your server and space, but that's more expensive.

Really just depends on if you need to access the files remotely.

My office is in 5 different locations, and they all need to access the documents and images. That is where I was using OneDrive. Sounds like I am still tied to OneDrive at this point in time. I am not on a shared server at WinHost, I have a dedicated server.

If you have a dedicated server you probably have more leeway with the storage, but would depend how much storage you need, if you need so much storage space that you need to upgrade your server space for room, it's probably not cost effective compared to using something like AWS. Or just keep using drive for simplicity.

Hi Don

Have you looked at your OneDrive and calculated your used storage? this will help us give you better advice. Also, what is the expected growth of that storage?
