Search Criteria Question
Lee Shastid

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this search criteria?

Like "*" & [Forms]![MainMenuForm]![SearchText] & "*"

The issue I am having is no matter what I type in the Search Box to find data it returns all the data not the data i requested. I was having this issue with all of fields that I had in the query, however I couldn't figure out what this issue was so I am trying it with only one field and no Concatenation of all my fields. So it must be in the search criteria I would think since it is doing the same thing with just one field. Thank you!!!

Did you leave the SearchText field before running the Query?

Sandra I do not know what you mean Double Double Quotes.

Kevin Yes I did as I hit the Search button that I created.

I have done so many attempts to figure it out there is just one field now. I deleted all the other fields to see what was going on. It wouldn't work with so many fields and the Concatenation string that I minimized it to just one field to try and find out.

How are you displaying the data?
A Continuous Form? Have you set the Record Source to the name of your Query?
Opening the Query? Like John said, show us the Query (in Design View)

What is the code behind the Search Button?
If it's an embedded Macro, show us the Macro.

Kevin I am so sorry but I am so confused and frustrated  right now. I have tried so much stuff. I dont remember how to get your answers. I will try and explain. I followed Mr. Rost video on searching multiple Fields and Concatenation and did it like he was doing it, but when I musta have missed something it started getting confusing. when you control source or you asking for the search box or button?

Kevin I looked at the property sheet for the search box and the control source is blank.

Bill Thank you. I did start over from the beginning and I have minimized the number of fields that I want to search. I know that will simplify things a lot. I created a new query and new search field and search button. I have it working by using the concatenation of the three fields. So I know the query is actually working. I just need to figure out how to make it pull the data that I am putting in the search box instead of returning all of the records and not the records that contain my search criteria.

Okay all that have been trying to help me. As is obvious I am a little challenged with access. Thank you for all your help. This will be a last resort question. If I cant figure this out I think I'm done with it. I will just use it like it is. I would like to have the search feature but not a do or die situation. I have started over from scratch and created everything label, Search box, and search button. The query works fine running it off my ribbon and it also runs fine running off the button at the search box. I am just leaving something small out but cant figure it out. I just need to get the search box connected to the query. I think that would solve my issue.

Ok Kevin what screen shots would help? I will try the snipping tool to get them. Not sure how other than that.

Query (Design View)
Form (Design View)
Code behind the Search Button (or Embedded Macro)
How is the data displayed?
    Are you opening the query?
Are you using a continuous Form? What is the Record Source?

Okay Kevin you made me waive the white flag. Some of stuff that you are asking for I haven't heard of in any of the videos of Mr. Rost that I been watching on search. So I am apparently missing something.
