PDF Handbooks

First, I wanted to post (just once) without having a problem and asking for help.  Second, I wanted to post and thank Richard and the people who publish the PDF handbooks that go with each lesson.  I've been meaning to make this post for a long time as I use the handbooks daily.  I have quite the library now.  Great informtion and high quality material.  Just wanted to recognize the value we all get from Richard's site and those who contribute to his cause.  All the best.  Mark in Colorado.

Great PostMark. I would also like to extend a huge hand clap to all involved.

You know, nothings too much trouble for Richard and the team he has. This is a great site, it's content is invaluable especially to those of us still getting to grips with just how powerful Access can be. So I want to add to Marks post and also say Special thanks to Richard and the guys for doing such an awesome job keeping us mere Access mortals going!

Thanks, guys. The handbooks originally started just as an afterthought, and I wasn't sure many people would actually use them, but I get feedback all the time on how much people use them. Me, personally, I'm a BOOK guy. I don't have the patience for videos.

Most of the early handbooks were authored and edited by Alex. Since then I've had a few other editors here and there, but these days it's mostly Sami and especially Sandra. They do excellent work.

Back in the old days, generating handbooks was very labor intensive. Someone had to actually type everything in. I said "to Hell with that" after doing a couple of my own handbooks, and then writing The Complete Idiot's Guide to Excel 2010. After that I realized I'd much rather spend my time making videos and let someone else write the handbooks. That's when I tapped Alex to start writing them, and he did them for a few years, and did excellent work.

Today, the process is much easier. I actually have a database that I built (go figured) where I load the videos into it, and then it generates the transcripts automagically using Whisper. It can then take that transcript and the video and create screenshots automatically wherever it thinks they're needed (a combination of key frame change detection and AI). This is maybe 70% accurate - but it's getting better all the time, and really does save a lot of time.

But it's not perfect, and that's where Sami and Sandra come in. They both helped me a lot with the Access Beginner 1 book (print edition now available on Amazon) and Sandra has been editing the raw products that my AI database spits out to make them into actual readable handbooks for the Developer series.

So... it's definitely a team effort. They wouldn't be anywhere near as nice of a product without their help.
