Data Entry Problem
David Spens

I have two tables
1.  BankDetailsT with four fields - BDID (autonumber); BeneficiaryName (short text); SortCode (shorttext) and Account Number (shorttext)
2. AddressT with some ten fields - AddressID (autonumber); Customer, Address, Telephone1, Telephone2, Mobile, Email (all shorttext); BDID (number); Notes (longtext) and MembershipID (number) - all the number fields are Long Integer.  Not all records have an entry in BDID.
I have a Query called BankDetailsQ joining BankDetailsT with AddressT on the basis that all records from BankDetailsT and only those records from AddressT where the joined fields (BDID) are equal are shown.
I have a form (BankDetailsEntryF) based on BankDetailsQ to enter new records showing all fields from BankDetailsT and most fields from AddressT (except Notes and MembershipID)
However, and this is the problem, when I use the form to enter new records for both BankDetailsT and AddressT, I can enter the BankDetailsT fields, but NOT the AddressT Fields.  When I click in one of the AddressT fields I get an annoying error sound and cannot make any entry.
Any suggestions about how to overcome that problem?
I have tried two separate forms, linked by a button on the BankDetailsEntryF to the AddressEntryF, and that works perfectly but I have manually to enter the BDID in the AddressEntryF BDID field.  It does not automatically populate that BDID field. I can set a warning requiring the BDID field to have an entry before closing the AddressEntryF form, but would prefer not to go down that road.
Many thanks
David

Reply from Richard Rost:

Sounds like your recordset (the query) is not updateable. This happens. You'll probably have to use multiple forms (or even a subform) and just set the default value of the ID field based on the value of the currently open form.
