Fitness Db Practical Use

Hi Rich, been following your series (I watch all your stuff)

I'm not interested in fitnes (at 82 with heart failure I concentrate more on staying alive lol), but I do have a practical use for meals and meal groups made up from food items. This is the "meals-on wheels sales database that I think I've mentioned before)

We sell and deliver hot meals to the elderly, so there are food groups like the obvious Main and Dessert, other groups are things like Snacks.

I should point out that I adapted the MS Northwind database (after a year or so of your lessons I would start from scratch, but at the time I had less skills). So you will understand what the "Products" table and form look like, still as in Northwind.

It only shows the Product Name and Product Description, but I've also added a Combo Box to select allergens (with identifying letters like N for Nuts G for Gluten (14 of them).

Anyway, it seems an ideal case to structure it so that meals (currently Products) use your methodology of being made up from food items so that if we need to, we would know more about meals, the ingredients the breakdown like you have (Calories, Protein, Sugar etc) but also allergens. Meals come in two sizes (Regular and Large) and Hot or Chilled.

Any suggestions or ideas would help me plaguerise your lessons.

Regards Peter

That's a good idea. If that is something that you want to track in your database, I would simply add a series of yes or no values to each food item (i.e., contains nuts, contains gluten, etc.). You can very easily filter that stuff out when you're trying to prepare a meal. Great idea. I don't think I'm going to add that to this database, but it's a fantastic idea.
