Help with Macro Button
Ken Wykoff

#1. I need to figure out how to make a macro button that will allow me to click on and add a new Genre without having to go to the GenreT to add it. My current Genre Button is a Combo Box. Anyone who knows how to do that and what I need to do would be very helpful.

#2. I also have a Note button to take people to the Summary Notes on the book. I would like to know how to add a message box to that button that explains how to find what to do so they can find the book they want to know about.

I will attach a photo of what the Book Form looks like now. Thanks, Ken

#1) You shouldn't have to add genre too often.  You can add it to the table, or create a form for adding it.  Then you can put a button on your form to open the Genre form.

#2) I'm not sure what you're saying here.  You have an Open Notes button, but you said that opens the "Summary Notes", but you want to add a message box?

Ken For # 1, You could also use a List Items Edit form that gives you the option to add a new Genre directly from the Genre Combo Box. Richard shows the List Items Edit Form in that video as well as Relational Combo video.

For # 2, I'm confused like Raymond. Are you trying to provide information via a message box to help the user find where to obtain/purchase the book? If that's the case, that can be added to the button easily enough, however, I would caution you on this approach as it might frustrate the user having a form and a message box open every time they try to review the summary notes.

If you want to have that popup message box each time the summary form loads, let us know and we can walk you through adding it to your button that opens the form. Or, you could add a button to the summary form that pops up the message box if/when the user want to know how to get it, or add another field on the summary notes that includes that information. There are lots of ways you could approach it.

Good morning, guys. Sorry that I didn't seem clear enough. What I have done is to attach 2 screenshots of the Forms I am talking about. The main thing is the Note Button at the top right of the Book Form. I somehow think it might be important to add a message box to the click function the the button to let someone know what they need to do once they are in the Note Form to locate the summary on a book. Maybe I am just overthinking it, but it is just a thought to help the use of the Forms. Also, Donald, thank you for the links you shared, too. I have been quite busy watching all sorts of videos Richard has on all sorts of subjects.

I would not recommend having a message box come up every time someone wants to search.

I would recommend making a small "info" button or something they can click on to get your message box.  For this button, you can also put "ControlTip Text" (in the Other Tab on the property sheet) which is a short message that shows up if you hover your mouse over the object for a few seconds.

Raymond, I like that idea. I will have to find out if there is a video on how to do that. Thank you

You'll just add a button to your form, cancel the wizard, then in the Properties, select an image (one of the built in images)

This video will show you how to add 1 line of code for the message box.

Also watch this video for the ControlTip Text.

Thank you again Raymond. I will look into that for sure.
