Cannot Add Records
Stephen Gledhill

I have a Continuous Form (ProductListF) which am using to help me sort through a product costing and price Table. Using the continuous form is much quicker and easier than using the main detailed form, item by item.
The record source of the continuous form is a Query based on two tables - ProductT and ProdTypeT.
ProductListF works well and I can amend any record, but I can't add a new record.
I get the error message "Cannot add record(s); join key of table 'ProductT' not in recordset.
The two join keys of both tables are in the Query and are also in the cintinuous form.
Can you help me find what is wrong? I will attach a couple of snips:

Change the Join Type to Outer Join, so the little arrow is pointing towards your Product Type table. You only want that so you can see the Product Type name and have it used as a criteria. But it doesn't need to be editable, so that can be an Outer Join. That will also make sure that you can see products that don't have a type assigned.

Richard  An outer join could still cause an error if the user types something into product type and referential integrity kicks in (if it exists) and gives a warning.  I follow this unwritten rule: a data entry form should only have a single table in its recordsource; and if you need to pull in data from another table, use a combo box.  I believe you have said something to that effect in this forum a while ago.

Kevin - Oh, I agree 100%. I strongly recommend only having those fields in there for display purposes only. If you are going to include them in a form, make sure you lock those fields because, exactly like you said, if he types in something over one of the descriptions it could change that description for all of the products. I think that I cover that in the outer join video, but I'm not sure. Thank you for clarifying.

Thanks very much guys - I'll lock down and not use the continuous form for any data entry.
