Split Using vba
Mark Desens

Hi guys, is it possible to use vba to split and create the back end and send it to a specific location? Or is it better to just use the built in wizard to split it?

Is this something you're expecting to do more than once?

Hi Alex, I hope not. However my fileserver folder that is shared by other computers and has the backend in it, for some reason it stops sharing and I have to share it again or even create a new shared folder because the old one is no longer accessible which has the backend in it along with lots of other documents too. Which means I need to create a new shared folder and use my backup database I need to split for everyone to use.

Your backup should already be split.

Sorry Ray Spornhauer, I have two databases that are the same. One I use for working on which is not split because it’s the master, and the other is the one that everyone uses. Just like Richard says, always have a backup.

Can you not investigate why the sharing stops instead?

Creating a linked table only needs one line of code.  E.g.:

DoCmd.TransferDatabase acLink, "Microsoft Access", "C:\MyFolder\MyDB.accdb", acTable, "OriginalTableNameFromMyDB", "LinkedTableName"

Your master should already be split.  There's no reason not to have it split.
