Seperate Form Records - One Report
Raymond Spornhauer

I'm working on an Equipment Tracking database where each record on a Continuous Form is a different piece of equipment.  The user can update the status and put comments, etc.

Continuous Form Records:
Equipment 1     Status     Comments
Equipment 2     Status     Comments
Equipment 3     Status     Comments
Equipment 4     Status     Comments

On my report, in order to save space, I'd like to have the Equipment and Status grouped at the top in a way that I don't have to update VBA every time we want to make changes.

Report:
[Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status] \
[Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]  \
[Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   \
[Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   /  SubReport 1
[Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]  /
[Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status]   [Equipment]-[Status] /
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Equipment - Comments 'These only show if there are comments input by the user             \
Equipment - Comments                                                                       \
Equipment - Comments                                                                       /  SubReport 2
Equipment - Comments                                                                      /

I have tried setting this up using subReports (which don't Run VBA Code if the code is in the SubReport).

Using the Page Setup and setting Columns works for the Equipment Status Section, but is not intuitive for the end users at all.

Additionally, All the Records on the Continuous Form may not always be included in the report, which changes the sequence equipment if I use the subReport Columns technique.

I'd really like to know if anyone else has done something similar and what worked best for this in their situation.  This would really help me out alot.  I've been pondering over this for a while.

I tried building a subReport with all the Fields I wanted and would update them using Recordsets in VBA, but the code I used in the subReport (won't run as a SubReport) so I end up with a Report with all Blank fields.

Unless someone knows how to force the VBA to run in the Report Load section when it's a SubReport.

For Rick,

This is one example of the VBA SubReport code I really need to run that I've mentioned before, but was unable to remember this problem to give as an example when I brought it up.

This Equipment Status Report will be a subReport of a larger Report which groups all my subreports together.

Main Report Sections:
Report - Equipment Status Report (which has subreports)
Report - Required Comprehensive Actions Report
Report - Guarded Equipment Report
etc....
