Adding a Field to a Product Llist
Lee Shastid

I have fields cost, tax and a text box (Total Cost) for the total of the fields on the product form. If I make a product list there is not a field in the table to choose Total Cost. So how do I get that field on the product list? I am drawing a blank, and must not be asking google correctly because of no results that make sense.

Hi Lee,

Just create a query with a calculated field for total cost. Then, you can point your list rowsource to that query and the field will be available.

Donald Thank you so much for bringing this up on the calculated fields. I knew how to do it, just didn't grasp the concept of pushing the data to a form. I should be careful saying this, but it actually seems like it may be a little fun doing this. It has helped me with the concept on putting different aspects of a DB together a little more.

Learning how to, and actually building, a database is fun. A little frustrating at times when you know you can do something but you just can't seem to remember exactly how or exactly what you did to make it work last time. But getting all the pieces together is like completing a puzzle.

Kind of like when Richard says something like, "They're your Legos, the video just shows you one way to put them together!". If you ever played with legos, or built a model, or, if you're old like me, lol, built something with Lincoln Logs, it's all kinda the same thing.

The difference with a database is that when you're done, not only do you have something you built sitting on your shelf, but you have a tool you can use to make tasks easier!

My biggest issue is when I get through with one I end up having other ideas with it and then I get into trouble.

You mean like the database I started building 4-yrs ago (low priority project) before I started my courses here. What was finished used Macros (ugh) and between what I messed up because I didn't know better in developing with Access and all the extras I started thinking about along the way.

Mix in poor backups and corruptions... Yeah, I've dug myself into a few holes. But, a stripped down version of it will go into beta testing at the start of the New Year that will do what needs to be done to replace the outdated DOS program that is currently in use.

Sounds' like you come along way with yours. I only have one issue I cant seem to figure out and it seems to happen at least in any Db that I have done. I figured out around it, its not the correct way but it works I guess.
