Form Name on Property Sheet
Jorge Mendez

HI,

I made a copy of the Customer Form so that I could tinker with it and still be able to go to the original form if needed.  So now I have CustomerF and CustomerF2.  When I open the Property sheet there is no Name field on the main form only record source.  The two forms have the exact same record source, so I am never sure which one is being displayed in the property sheet unless I go to the button calling up the form and see what is the current form executed when the button is pressed. The subform name show up every time I open the datasheet for it, why does the main form not show the name?  I am trying to avoid the situations shown on "How to Reference a Control in a Nested Subform in MIcrosoft Access" video.

Thank you.

Jorge My guess is that at some point, you sorted the property list in one of the forms. For some reason, Access removes the name property from the list once it's sorted. And, what's worse, it doesn't automatically put it back.

You can try clicking a different control then coming back, etc. but often this won't work either. The simplest method, if the two forms are still relatively the same is to recopy the original form again (if that's the one with the name still showing) and then transfer your changes to the new copy.

If the original is the one not showing the name, then I would create a new, blank form, and then copy all the controls to that new form. You can select each section (Header, Detail, Section) one at a time and press Ctrl-A in the old form then go to that section of the blank form and press Ctrl-V. You may have to reset background colors, etc. in the new form and you may need to make sure buttons are working.

Alternatively, if it's the original form from Richard's TechHelp Free template, you can simply delete that form and copy the original back from Richard's version.

Forms don't show their Name in the Property Sheet. The name can easily be seen in the Title Bar when the Form is in Design View. Subforms have a Name property because they are a control on the Form.

Dolt! I missed that one image was a subform and one a form...

I have had it remove the name property from the property sheet for controls... Usually I can get them back closing and reopening the form, or doing debug/compile, or compact/repair and if that doesn't work, shutting down and rebooting access.

When none of those work, it's time for damage control because the database is getting wonky so I usually create a new project and copy/paste everything over to a fresh db

Thank you!  The form was maximized and the name of it was at the Top.  I was so focused at looking at the property sheet.  Thanks for your help.

Changing the backcolor for CustomerF2 would also help you to distinguish them easily.

Great Idea! Thank you.  DIdn't even think of that, Make a color scheme for the testing forms.
