Sorting Outlook Emails with Access
Kevin Willyerd

I receive over one thousand emails daily, (I know, but what is is). I have a program that runs from Sperry software, which sorts the email according to rules for me. It is an XML file and seems to get corrupted on a semi-regular basis. I was wondering if it would be possible to create an access program that would do the same sorting.

As a secondary question, how does everyone else handle the auto-sorting of their email when Outlook rules are limited and won't handle the volume?

What makes them limited and unable to handle the volume?

Are these in an enterprise account?

Manage mail flow rules in Exchange Online

I had been trying to use the rules directly in my desktop Outlook, and that limited the number. I was not aware of the exchange option that you pointed out. I will give it a try. Thank you so much.

Most of the rules I use are simple:  if xxx is in the sender, move the email to folder yyyy. The Exchange Server does not have an option to move the email from the inbox to a subfolder that I can find. I have over 3000 rules. Outlook has a limit of 256k (about 80-100 rules). But it does let me move them to a subfolder. That is why I have been using a third-party add-on. It uses an XML file that has been corrupted on a regular basis lately, as the file size has increased.

ALEX,
Thank you for the definitive answer. I now know why. How difficult would it be to create a system that would work in Access? If it worked for a small number of rules in XML, it makes sense to me that it could be written in VBA with a SQL backend. What do you think?
