Search as You Type
Richard Van Wagoner

I am trying to get the search as you type lesson to work. I am following along on Access Developer 8. I don't know why it doesn't work everything is typed correctly according to the video, with my fields. It was working until I backed my file up but now it doesn't work. It seems to me that the refresh part is not working, as soon as anything is typed into the searchterm box the list goes empty. I have included a few screenshots.

Try adding .text after Searchterm in your where string.

I have been working with this again today and have found out that when I put this line of code in is when the problems begin. Private Sub SearchList_Click()

        DoCmd.OpenForm "MyNameF", , , "MyNameID = " & SearchList
End Sub

Even after removing the problem still exists. Every thing works fine untill I add this code

Working with this problem again today, In the change event for the searchterm I put msgbox searchterm back in and I am getting the error invalid use of null again.

As Joe said above, did you try changing:

"WHERE SRC Like ""*" & SearchTerm & "*"""

to

"WHERE SRC Like ""*" & SearchTerm.Text & "*"""

SearchTerm will be null until a record is saved and since it is an unbound form/field, it never gets saved but the text property exposes what is typed in the field.

I found out that there is a problem with my database. I copied my tables to a new database and now it works fine.

Ah yes, the old corrupted database file. You don't see it often, but when it hits, you never suspect it. Just like the Spanish Inquisition. LOL
