No ID in Detail Section

I've added this feature before and needed a refresher for a new form when something strange happened. I added the ID to the detail section, it displayed as expected. I copied to the header, cleared the control source, renamed it SelectedID, did the VBA, and on re-open SelectedID is blank. Only AFTER I removed the ID from the Detail section did it work. Any insight on why this might have happened?

If selectedid is unbound, in the oncurrent event you would need to set selectedid = id so that your conditional formatting can compare the two.

Donald is exactly right. Once you clear the Control Source, SelectedID becomes an unbound control. Access has no reason to populate it automatically, so it will be blank until your On Current event assigns it a value:

SelectedID = ID

Also make sure the code is in the form's On Current event, not the ID control's event. The detail-section ID control still needs to remain bound to the record's actual ID field, because that is where the On Current code gets the value to place into SelectedID.
