Setting Up Data Entry Forms
Hunter G

-----My Background

I am currently developing a database for my business that deals with automotive insurance claims. Following the tutorials from Richard Rost, I've separated all of my tables to be their own respective entities. I also have a main table (FileT) that relates to the other tables the majority of which I believe to be a 1 to 1 relationship. FileT essentially relates to ClientT, VehicleT, InsuranceCompanyT, and so on.

-----My Problem

I'm beginning to bring my tables together by designing a data entry form I wish to use to input most of this data, while keeping the tables separate. Unfortunately, whenever I try to design a form for a "Create New File" I am met with error messages that say that the tables cannot relate to each other because there is no Unique ID generated for those tables. For example, my ClientT has a unique ID of ClientID. FileT has a field name ClientID (data type: number) that is set to relate to this auto number. But when I go to input a client in the "New File" form, I'm simply kicked back by Access saying that there is no field that matches the FileT and ClientT together.

-----My Question

I wanted to know if there was any other solution to my issue other than adding about 10 subforms into my FileT. I've read on other forms that this is the correct way to "combine" tables in a form. I think that the solution is in a query.

Thank you guys in advance!

-Hunter

Reply from Alex Hedley:

Are you manually adding the ClientID?
