Access Debugging Lesson

At one point, you had a list of possible classes or seminars suggested to you by your students.  Do you still have that or still want to field suggestions?  If so, I would like to suggest a seminar on error handling.  My Ambulance database is at a point where I am finding and dealing with operational errors that occur as I use it and would like to have a method to trap these errors and fix them programmatically.  I know there is software out there that can document Access databases, locate logic and functional errors ( FMS is the vendor I am thinking of) but it is expensive.  Seems like we could, even should, be doing a lot of this on our own.  What do you think?  Possible?

Hi Jim. I spend a little time on debugging throughout my lessons, but usually just enough to get by an error when needed (like a DLOOKUP that misbehaves). Usually an ON ERROR RESUME NEXT will get you by, like I show in Access Developer 2. However I do need to make a comprehensive lesson or two on PROPER debugging. I'll put it on the short list. Thanks for the tip.

Oh, and I used to have that Waiting List page where students could vote on topics and post suggestions. I dropped it a while back because nobody was using it.

Richard we did not use the waiting list because you wanted us to pay upfront for courses I think you should bring it back but not asking money upfront for selection an indication of what we would be interested in

I understand your point. However, I had a few instances where people voted for a particular seminar, so I knew I had X people that wanted it and I would make X dollars from it. So, I would invest my time, effort, (and yes) money into developing it, and then only a fraction of the people bought it. So it turned out to be a big waste. That's when I started getting AT LEAST credit card info up front. That way I knew these people were serious. I think what I'll probably do is bring back the waiting list, BUT make it only so that existing customers can vote on topics - and not make it open to the general public.

I live in Florida, so I'm EST too but the server is on the west coast, I believe. Yeah, it's on my list of things to do... Getting the server displaying EST, and then eventually the user's local time.
