Google Forms to Access
Richard Rost

OK, so here's a crazy one. I love using Google Forms. It's a cool little app on the web to send out surveys and collect responses. The results are saved in a Google Sheet. Unfortunately, Access cannot directly connect to a Google Sheet. I've tried. The good news is that Excel can connect to Google Sheets. I just figured out how to make Access open up a copy of Excel, force Excel to refresh the Google Sheet data, and then you can pull it into Access with one click.

Is anyone interested in seeing how to do this? Basically you can pull any data you can get into Google Sheets into Access this way. Unfortunately, it's only a one-way trip. Access can't easily push data BACK to Google Sheets. But, if you just want to collect data that other people are entering, this is a nifty trick.

Not just surveys, you can set up a form for any kind of data collection. Service calls. Inventory. You name it. The results get posted back to a Google Sheet which you can then pull into Excel which means you can pull it into Access.

Since not everyone is probably interested in this, I'm not going to include it in the regular Developer lessons, but I could probably make this into a one-hour seminar. You don't have to use Google Forms too... you can just share a Google Sheet to your colleagues and import any changes they make into your Access database.

I have both of them just last time I looked at them it was not suited for what I needed.
But they have got better from what I see now.

Yes. They've both gotten MUCH better. In fact one of the reasons why I haven't wanted to make videos for any of these online products like Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc. is because they are CONSTANTLY adding new features and making changes. By the time my video gets made, stuff is different! At least with Microsoft there is a 2 or 3-year period where they don't change stuff. LOL
