Access Front End for SQL Server

Richard, do you have any plans to create a seminar on how to use Access as a front end with SQL server?

Yes, absolutely. It's on my short list. Coming very soon. It will have two parts: one will be for setting up SQL Server Express (the free version, which is good enough for most small businesses) for your in-house network and using that to host your Access tables. Part two will cover using SQL Server from an online ISP provider (GoDaddy, AWS, Google, Azure, etc.) and hosting your data online so that people can work with your data remotely.

Good Morning ALL... Rick, will you be showing how to use Visual Studio to build an HTML that links to Access Data?  If yes count me in.

Juan: yes, definitely. I've got a few other things I want to get finished first, but that is definitely on the horizon.

@Juan you could use my HTA Tips for the time being.

Hello Rick!

So, this is actually a topic that is very relevant and urgent for me.  My company wants me to connect the Access database I created (using your amazing trainings to do so) to SQL server so that people working remotely here in the states and in MX can use it.  They want this by the end of the year.  Is "coming very soon" possibly in that window, or should I try to find other information sources to suss it out on my own?

Thank you!

Ashley, it is VERY high on my list, especially due to the influx of people working remotely / from home because of the pandemic. That's one of the reasons I put the SharePoint Seminar together as quickly as I did. The SQL Server Seminar is going to run along the same lines, but it's a little more complex. I really hate giving precise schedules, but I hope to have it out sometime in November.

Hi again Rick!

I am just checking in to see if you have an update for the Access Frontend/SQL Server Backend seminar?  I completely understand not wanting to get too precise with schedules, as it's hard to schedule around completely unforeseen events that always, ALWAYS crop up when you really don't have time for them.  I am still trying to get this project out and am struggling to make it happen.  Your lessons are always so clear, concise, and easy to follow, and I just know they are the resource I need to succeed.  What news have you, good sir?

Thank you!

Hi Ashley. Sorry... still very high on the list. Hoping to have it out soon. My "hope to have it out sometime in November" comment 2 months ago is exactly why I hate giving timeframes. I've got a couple of other projects that still have priority and then that's next on the list. I apologize. I suffered an eye injury back in February that left me blind in one eye. Also since that happened, I never know how many hours each day I'm going to be able to work - if any at all. I get real bad migraines on that side of my head now, and staring at a computer screen for hours on end brings them on. I have all these plans for projects I want to work on, and I start the day off full of enthusiasm, and then by noon some days I have to go lay in the dark. So... it's something I'm dealing with.

Would Expert 24 not cover enough for now?

Rick,

I completely understand how schedules can change whenever life throws curve balls at you, there is no need for you to apologize or explain.  I may hope it will come out in a time-frame to be useful on this project, but if it doesn't, there's always next project.  Your health and wellness are paramount.  You do amazing work and I remain your satisfied student and customer.  Live long and prosper!

Alex,

No, I don't think Export 24 will do it.  Rick says in the video it's the "quick and dirty" way and everyone uses the same username and password, meaning there's no way to control user access.  I need to be able to control user access in this database.  Thank you for the suggestion, though!
