Search Seminar

Hi!

1 - do you cover in the search seminar how to search as you type and if there isn't a result the output will suggest to you "did you mean...?" just like a search on google

2 - you mentioned in dev8 that search as you you type works better in a list box than a Combobox, do you come up with a solution in the seminar?

thanks allot

I don't think this is possible within reason. If it is, it's not covered in the seminar. While you can setup the search as you type with LIKE and wildcards, it still can't tell that you meant tree if you search tere (or any other misspelling with letters out of order). It's only as smart as you make it. Unless there is something I've never heard of before, to do something like this would be a massive if then project where if a word that you pre-listed as a typo was searched, you could add in the suggested word. Like the below example with thousands of words.

If TextBox = "tere" Then
MsgBox "Did you mean tree?"
End If

The seminar uses the list box for search as you type. (Is there a reason you want to use a combo box?)

A listbox with a text box is just better, in my opinion, but you can certainly use a combo box if you want to.

And yeah, the "did you mean" would involve a database of misspellings. For example, you spelled "seminar" wrong when you made the initial post. I corrected it. But you could have an AutoCorrect table for words that are commonly misspelled. Wouldn't be super hard to do. But no - that's not covered in the seminar.
