Digital Certificates
William Farrar

I searched the website for the Digital Certificates topic and it states that there were 10 results.  The page shows 8, and when you click on "Show all 10 results, only the 8 results are listed again.  The only result was a link to Google.

I would like to create and install my own digital (or purchased) certificate and install it in my access databases to circumvent some of the various errors/warnings that appear when it is opened in another computer.

I've been creating a "Database" folder in the root of C: and copying the DB into that folder.

There aren't any hits for a search on "digital certificates" on my site because I really haven't covered that topic yet. The 8 things you see are probably the categories (search index, TechHelp, course outlines, etc.) not search results. At the bottom you see "Max 10" which means you'll see a maximum of 10 hits in any category - but there aren't any. A full Google search shows that doesn't show up on my site at all.

I think I talked about "self-signed" certificates in one of my classes, using SelfCert.exe, but that only works on YOUR system for YOU, to bypass the warning messages. If you want a REAL digital certificate, purchased from an authority like VeriSign, then that's definitely something I haven't covered yet.

You're the first person in 27 years to ask me about this. If there is any other interest, I'd be happy to add a lesson or two to one of my next Developer classes, but that would involve ME buying a certificate for myself to be able to show you how, and they're not cheap... usually around $150 / year or more. So there would need to be at least a few people interested for me to justify the expense.

I appreciate the quick response and understand the associated cost involved for a purchased certificate.  I've included a trusted location (C:\Databases) into the Current Database option. Then create that folder on another laptop running Access Runtime and a max screen resolution set to 1280 x 720 for testing purposes.
