Split FilePath and Name

Hi Richard
I would like to create a table which contain the folder path and the file name in a separate text fields. So If for some reason I need to change the folder of the saved files I can do so quit easily by using an update query. my question is if there is a way to split the file path in to 2 sections, one will contain the folder and the other will contain the file name,
thanks
Hezi

Hezi -

Having two separate fields isn't an issue.  You will have to concatenate them in your code.
Like:
FolderPath &"\"& FileName

You could hard code it in. Or you could set it in a field.  Personally if it was me I would NOT put it in every record as it's own field unless the FolderPath is different for each person for instance.

If it was me, and the files were always stored in the same place, I would create a "SettingsT" where you had the FolderPath stored.  Then use DLookup in your code to fill in a variable for FolderPath.

That way if the FolderPath ever changes you only have to change it in one place.  You don't have to worry about updating the path in all of your records.

I see that you have started the beginner series so I don't know if I just talked way over your head.  Let me know if so and I'll provide you some video links to get you going.

Thank you Alex, Thank you Scott
Yours tip are very helpful.
My files are stored in different folders so I think the best solution for me is to use some VBA code with an update query.
Thank you all.
