Barcode Scanner

After watching your video on barcode scanning, I created a table and report to scan the office computer devices. I am trying to barcode scan the barcode tag on the HP desktop. I am using a Symcode Model: MJ-R40/2D scanner. The scanner cannot read the barcode tag on the desktop (HP Elite Desk 800 G5 SFF) but the scanner can read the barcode on the HP monitor E243i Monitor. Both devices are HP products.                                             I tried scanning several desktops with no success. Please help me. Thank you.

If you open up Notepad can you scan into that?

If not it is more tan likely a setting in your scanner.  It has to be capable of reading the type of barcode you are scanning.  It's not possible from here to tell what symbology that barcode is.  You will most likely have to look deeper in your scanners documentation.

This is my first time working with a scanner. How can I up load photos to show the two barcodes. Would you review these photos and guide me. Thank you.

I haven't watched the barcode video so I can't comment on that.

But I had to buy a barcode font, I think it was a Code128 font that is an acceptable font for our scanners. They couldn't scan the "default" ones I had tried to use before. Might be something you have to do too. We use various WASP model scanners here. Works fine after installing the font into access to use to make printable labels etc.

The image upload is in the upper right corner of your original post.

As far as your scanner and identifying what type of barcode it is that you are trying to scan I don't know that I would be much help.

As I said the documentation for your particular scanner is probably going to be your best bet.
The one I used years ago had a "test sheet" included in the docs so you could set it up.

Like Scott said, try scanning into Notepad. If that doesn't work, it's an issue with your scanner or the barcode itself. Obviously, I don't know every scanner ever made and every barcode symbology. I can only teach on the ones I have experience with. Most scanners I've dealt with can read the Code39 barcode font, ISBN numbers, and UPC codes, which is why I stick to those.

Just from the context of your post I'm assuming  you are trying to do some sort of asset tracking.
If that is the case I would print my own barcodes  and place them on the items you are tracking.  A little work up front but you don't have to worry about compatibility from item to item.

Some scanners need to be configured first. Usually there are actual barcodes in the manual and you scan them depending on what you want to configure :). That being said, some scanners don't necessarily have to be compatible with all types of barcodes, especially the cheaper ones.

Plus the barcode could be damaged, too small, etc.
