Recordset Not Updateable
Amina Jones

Hello All,
I am getting the error recordset not updateable when i try to use the form.
I did watch both videos on "recordset not updateable" and I was not able to resolve the error. I have my primary keys set and there are no aggregate queries. The database I am building is for a nonprofit sober living facility. There are 32 tables total. The main form has the profile with clients current information and then I added tab control on this form. There are about 15 tables used for the tab control using the add table function in design view. Please help! I'm not sure why this is not working. I am current student at community college getting my database certificate.

Without even looking at it just seeing how long that SQL view is, it looks way too complex for a query to handle. Try to break that down into smaller sections, do it across a couple of queries and see if they can handle small parts individually. Then we can look at how to bring everything togethor.

I agree with Adam. That query is WAY too complex. You're going to end up with a non-updateable recordset with just 2 or 3 tables sometimes, let alone dozens of them. You need to break this up into a form with multiple subforms... not a tab control.

If  I reduce the tab control to like 5 tabs, then use  sub forms or buttons for the rest can it still all go on one form. Because my main menu will have sections that will be for data entry and to view reports separate from the main form where they can view the clients info

You could reduce it to TWO tabs, as long as you are pulling multiple tables into a query and using that query for the recordsource of a form, it may become non-updateable. My advice is to use a single table as the recordsource for a form. Instead of tabs like you have, use related subforms. Watch this extended cut: Vehicle Maintenance
