Lost Password

We have a database at our company that was created by someone who has passed away. He put a password in the database and no one knows what the password is. Does anyone know of a way to remove a password from Access? I have done this in Excel but I don't know if it can be done in Access. Any help would be appreciated.

Barry,

I googled this just to be sure and this was the reply from someone at Microsoft.

"If you encrypt a database and then lose the password, you will be unable to use the database. You cannot remove a database password if you do not know the password.

We understand that it might have been a few years since you used the database and forgot the password, but if Access has a way to reset a password, then the password protection will be ineffective in the first place."

There might be third party "Brute Force" tools available like with excel but would need research, and a lot of computer processing power. If the password was really complicated, then forget it.
Was the database split with tables separate? You might be able to recover the data that way, if the tables weren't encrypted and will just need to re-create the frontend

Thanks for the replies. Everything is password protected. Fortunately, one of the employees guessed the correct password and it works for every file. The morale of the story is, never let one person have the password to an important file. Thanks again for your replies!

You can try sending your database to EverythingAccess.com. I have yet to personally use their service, but I hear from many people that they are highly recommended.
